I love this book, Firework Studies by Pierre Le Hors! An amazing way to capture such an ephemeral experience.

“firework studies is a book compiling photographs of fireworks in the night sky. by constraining nearly all tonal values to stark blacks and pure whites, the trails, explosions and clouds of debris are reduced to a series of simple repeated formal elements: arced lines, spherical bursts, and randomly dispersed particles. i made no effort to limit digital artifacts resulting from pushing the image files past their conventional range; the resulting noise becomes hard to distinguish from the texture of the fireworks themselves.” -PLH

While I was in California I finally went to see artist Peter Shire’s studio in Echo Park. Even though I used to live down the street I had never actually been there. I was so excited just pulling into the parking lot. Upon entering I felt like I was walking into something like the Eames 901 studio. It was such an inspiring place and he is an artist who I am very influenced by. I was fortunate enough to get to listen to some of his stories about his work, get a small tour, and of course purchase some insane ceramic pieces which managed to make it safely back with me to Paris. Peter Shire is a Memphis artist who is most known for his ceramic and sculpture works. He has had this studio in Echo Park for the last 13 years and it’s filled with stories, interesting customized objects, collections, and lots of his work. In the end I didn’t want to leave I felt like I made a new friend. If you live in Los Angeles or are visiting call ahead and stop by! It’s definitely not something to be missed.

I love everything about the home and style of designer Momo Suzuki who was featured on Jenna Sohn’s incredible blog as part of her site Closet Visit. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Sohn’s site already you’re in for a serious treat!

While back in LA, I ended up downtown at a party in what turned out to be our old friends and neighbor’s new space. Friends from Ladyboy and Work share the space with Thvm atelier. The installation is so beautiful I wish I still lived in a loft with high ceilings to recreate this at home! Designer Brian Kim from Work denim along with his wife Olga Nazarova, from Endovanera, together create the line Thvm, which of course has amazing denim, and pants that have a unique insane fit. They also create a magazine which you can check out online here.

Lula returns! Thanks to David for picking this up for me in London, it was the first time I’ve had the new issue so soon! (yet taken sooo long to post something about it, I am slowly coming back from my long vacation from my computer) This issue is filled with goodness! So many favorites it was hard to choose what to share. I love the dress Charlotte Gainsbourg has on, and the white ribbon worn with the lace dress. I wore a long white ribbon around my neck when I got married. I will always have a weak spot for nice ribbons, which is probably why I love Lula so much. Be sure not to miss this one!

I thought I’d start the new year off with a post that involved the most champagne possible. Just before I took off for the holidays, (we’re catching up on all kinds of things over here) Acne Paper hosted a party at the Museum of Hunting and Nature in Paris for the launch of their latest issue. It was an evening filled with polar bears and never ending glasses of champagne, which that last photo is a result of. This is one of my favorite museums in Paris and such a perfect place for a holiday soirée, it doesn’t get much better than a party with polar bears, swords and men in feathered caps who are constantly at your side filling your champagne glass.
