Blogging at the Met

Today I went to a panel discussion at the Met that had Cathy Horyn of On the Runway, Diane Pernet of A Shaded View on Fashion and Scott Schuman of the Sartorialist, along with Harold Coda from the Costume Institute. All blogs I am an avid reader of, therefore I had to go check it out. It was a great selection of blogs to choose from as they cover 3 very different takes on fashion blogging. I had just read an article on Cathy Horyn in the new issue of Self Service magazine, and was so excited to be hearing her speak because she is one of the few people who have been pursuing relevant conceptual dialogues in fashion, but many of her responses were the very same from the article, so I felt that I had heard the stories and answers to questions that were asked at the discussion as it was a lot of the same topics covered. I also would have liked to have heard more from Diane Pernet, as I find her fascinating as well. She covers so many newer designers who are doing a lot of interesting work and her answers tended to be a bit more brief and concise. A lot of the audiences questions were directed at the Sartorialist and while it was interesting it would have been nicer to delve in a little deeper on the more interesting topics at hand of art as fashion and what the role of blogging in fashion has, the future of it, instead of focusing on how he approaches people to photograph them and how to get your blog to gain popularity.. Despite this it was a very interesting and worthwhile lecture to attend and I hope to see more of this type of panel discussion in the future.
